Bob has an extraordinary ear for music, and a tenor voice to match. He has performed with seven quartets & been a member of three different choruses two of which he has & still does direct. Yet with all that musical talent he has never had any formal training. It is easy to see why he is just a natural when it comes to a cappella harmony.

He started singing with the Housatonic-Derby Chorus in 1965 continuing with it until 1980 when it merged with Waterbury & became the Waterbury Chorus. He then discovered he had a natural talent for directing so became the chorus director. When that chapters membership began to fall, as many chapters do, in 2003 he moved to the Connecticut Yankee Chorus. For us it was a stroke of luck other chapters only dream about. To put icing on the cake, not only did he bring his talents, but he brought his son Bryan, who also is really talented.

Not only has he played a major role in three different choruses, but found the energy and time to sing with great quartets. First was the, “Chord N Aires” (1967-70), “Sound Syndicate” (1970-72), “Eastern Addition” (1972-74), "7th St. Singers" (1975-1978) who in 1977 won the North East District Quartet Championships, and represented the District at the International in Philadelphia. Next quartet was “Free & Easy” (1985-87), again representing the North East District at the International in Hartford. From that quartet Bob added his tenor voice to “Unexpected Pleasure” (1988-92). Next came ”Sound Wave”, a wonderful blend of voices, only to dissolve when one of its members moved to Texas.  Bob sings lead with our chapter quartet Clubhouse Rules

So here it is 2004 and Bob Ranno our Assistant Director not only lends his great style of directing, but his marvelous tenor voice as well as 39 years of experience to Barbershop music. The Connecticut Yankee Chorus is truly blessed to have Bob Ranno as one of its members.
