Art
Hauser was born & raised in New Haven. The Hauser family, Mom, Dad,
and his 9 brothers and sisters would gather around the piano and sing. The
family was a close knit family and all enjoyed the music. After grade
school he attended Notre Dame High School where he joined the Glee Club
and played the Clarinet in the band.
Upon graduating high school Art joined the U.S. Air Force. From Basic
Training he was assigned to flying officers cadet school. When he
completed it he became a radar operator on B-29s. When the Air Force began
phasing out the aircraft in favor of the B47 he was assigned to the
Intelligence Squadron assisting with the Radar Bomber Trainer. While
serving at the Smokey Hill Air Base Art was involved in a serious
automobile accident . This resulted in a serious hip injury. He was placed
in a full body cast and flown to the Scott Air Force Hospital in Belville,
Illinois. There he spent two years having numerous surgeries to fuse the
hip. In 1958 the Air Force released him with a medical discharge.

Arts next stop was Quinnipiac University where he graduated with a
degree in Business Administration as well as a teaching certificate from
Southern Connecticut State University.
Upon completion of his education he was hired as a teacher in Meriden. For
20 years Art taught in Eli Whitney as well as Nathan Hale Elementary
school. However in 1968 he again underwent serious surgery having the hip
re-fused again.
Art and his wife Cathleen raised four daughter and says he polished his
singing skills while riding in the family car during vacations. That’s
where I learned to change musical keys he said. With five women you learn
to do that often even while singing just one song.
In 1983 he joined the New Haven Chapter and became a member of
Barbershop Harmony Society.
He went on to join the Meriden Chapter remaining with them until it was
reorganized and renamed the Connecticut Yankee Chorus.
For over 20 years I have enjoyed the singing, friendships and good
times as well as the hard work put into singing well in a Barbershop
Chorus. I have always enjoyed our style of music and I always will.
